The popular question of inevitable repetition of history is the underlying theme in a new book highlighting the oft neglected world war.


An American in Vienna, author Chip Wagar brings readers the story of Andy Bishop, who left Ohio in 1914 to connect with remote Austrian parents. It is soon witness the last fight of the Austrian Imperial society and that subsequent events trigger a fateful slide toward chaos, the book presents a romantic love story, coming of age and historical overview of the Austrian Court, royal society, and the disappearance of a powerful empire that became mired in the great war.

Chip Wagar studied the history of Central Europe and the policy at the Austro-américain Institute in Vienna and travelled in Central Europe. He holds a Bachelor's degree in international affairs from the George Washington University and a law degree from Tulane University. For 30 years, he was a lawyer practising in New Orleans, where he lives with his two children.
