For a limited to 408 undertaking 14th Street, in downtown Oakland begins on Friday, June 17, pistols and prayers, the socio-political Hip-Hop play written and directed by Def poet and artist Hip-Hop theater, Ise Lyfe, returns to Oakland. Pistols and prayers, a game based on the book, combines spoken word, African-American folk spirituals, classical music, hip hop and theatre. The provocative piece sold the Tony Award winning Berkeley Repertory Theater in its premier in 2009.
ISE Lyfe place autobiographical commentary in the historical context of distorted American culture. "I ran this piece now in various parts of the country for as many different audiences and prospects." He was born well here! "As a game travel it develops and evolves, so I am real very happy to see how he feels and engages audiences back home in Oakland," said Ise Lyfe. "This will be the first time, the play ran for 5 consecutive weekends, so which should be great fun.
Production includes the music of the internationally renowned, Destiny, young master pianist harpist, EJ Youngblood, DJ CD and Geechi Taylor on trumpet. Pistols and prayers explores the impact and contributions of the African Diaspora experience American and urban American. Pistols and prayers will be held June 17 through Sunday, 17 July 2011 to 408 14th St, in downtown Oakland. Performance schedule includes two performances Friday and Saturday at 6 pm and 9 pm and Sunday at 3 p.m. General admission tickets are $15 and $10 for youth.
