Carlton Hobbs, the specialist in the century museum quality seventeenth-nineteenth British and continental furniture and decorative arts, announced that the company will be present again at the salon of the masterpiece in London this month. "We have been very pleased with our results of the program in its inaugural year of 2010 and are very pleased to present a number of very important pieces to year this, has said Stefanie Rinza, General Manager of the company.".
Among the highlights are a Monumental and highly Important George III Breakfront library attributed to William city and John Cobb, English, to 1765. Vile and Cobb provided furniture to a number of Royal residences and the library, which was one of a pair with his companion of Sefton Lodge, Cambridgeshire, formerly was certainly designed to one of the Interior of the great library of Georgian England. The classic elegance of this room, decorated with banding Greek-key and an open-bel entablature atop scroll parentheses, reflects the Palladian architecture popular at the time.
Another point of interest is an extremely Rare Set of twelve carved Walnut Chinese Presidents for the export market. They are closely modelled on English prototypes Queen Anne and are comparable to the examples at Hatfield House, Hertfordshire; the Leverhume in the Lady Lever Art Gallery collection. and the collection of Jon Gerstenfeld, Washington, DC. An existing contract of the 1741 for Danish supercargo Lintrup Christen, suggests that this set of chairs may be part of his original commission, with a closely related cabinet office now in Kunsindustemuseet, Copenhagen.
Mirrors of Northumberland are one of the first masterpieces of English Rococo. Sold by the Duke of Northumberland in 1985, Graham Child noted in his book world mirrors 1650-1900 that they have a story to be present in three residences Dukes, "formerly in a House called Stanwick Park..." The pair is also illustrated by the Duke of archives of Northumberland as being in the collection at Alnwick Castle, Northumberland and was recently removed from Syon House, Middlesex. "Mirrors employ the language of the rococo in the form of rock garden, floral forms and boat and c-scrolls, retains even a baroque sense of the massivity and balance.
Outside of our stand will be decorated with elevations of a trim, formerly of Schloss Herblingen, an extraordinary late 17th century the survival of an important Castle Switzerland near Schaffhausen. It consists of a regime of false niches in which the grey album figures, representing these allegories such as seasons, Continents and the virtues are placed. The trim is further enhanced by painted panels curious and inventive as the composite faces of Arcimboldo original connecting doors.
According to Stefanie Rinza, a separate exhibition of recent acquisitions will be on display at the London Carlton Hobbs gallery, 16 Bloomfield Terrace, off the coast of the Pimlico road. "The fair masterpiece is on a short walking distance from our gallery and we thought that we would be mounting a special exhibition of recent acquisitions to coincide with the show".
